When shes not out in the fields picking 500 pounds of cotton a day with the harsh Louisiana sun beating down on her, Patsey is the subject of an endless string of abuses by Eppsor occasionally, his jealous, Lady Macbeth-like wife, played by Sarah Paulson. She collects bushel after bushel of the fluffy fiber thats a staple of fashion, but like most field slaves, is clothed in tattered dresses and isnt even afforded a bar of soap. So its been extra surprising to witness Lupita Nyongo , the then-unknown actress who rivets as Patsey, strutting her stuff on various red carpets this awards seasona jarring about-face similar to Jennifer Lawrences transformation from a squirrel-chopping mountain gal in Winters Bone to budding fashion icon back in 2010. RELATED: Style Icon: The Lupita Nyongo Lookbook (Photos) Getty With all due respect to Lawrence, her primary competition in the Best Supporting Actress Oscar race, Nyongo has been crowned the de facto red carpet winner this awards season for her sharp fashion sense. For her efforts, shes been spotted sitting front row at New York Fashion Week, graced the cover of New York Magazines Spring Fashion issue, and has fashion houses like Alexander McQueen and Stella McCartney begging her to wear their designer gowns on Oscar night. Until all this, I hadnt been a student of the fashion industry as a formal industry, Nyongo told The Daily Beast.

LVMH to Develop Italian Fashion House Marco de Vincenzo
It's exactly the same thing with fashion shoots and trends. Think of them as being like Top Gear, without Jeremy Clarkson. Yes, some fashion is insanely overpriced, but often the prices reflect the workmanship required to make the clothes and it would be ridiculous for fashion writers (and beauty writers, food writers, travel writers, or anyone, really) to pretend that expensive, nice things don't exist just because most people can't afford them. I can't afford to eat at Heston Blumenthal's latest restaurant, but I still want Marina O'Loughlin to tell me what it's like. Finally, fashion itself. Yes, there are lots of elements of the fashion industry that are disgusting and I have discussed plenty of them over the years: the racism , the ageism, the eating disorders, the elitism. But that does not mean that fashion itself should be scorned and the fact that some people feel so free to do so suggests, as I have said before, strong sexism at play here.

Slideshow MILAN (Reuters) - Hooded models walked in an enchanted forest and fox-fur mixed with lambskin on Milan's catwalks on Sunday as the city's women's fashion week drew to an end in a positive mood. A frosty oak tree rose from beneath the stage in a flurry of snow at Dolce and Gabbana before models glided out in clothes stitched with squirrels, foxes and childlike flowers. Salvatore Ferragamo showed a textured collection of furry coats, metallic dresses and leopard-print skirt suits for autumn and winter, in a startlingly bright white room. As Italy installs a new government and struggles to emerge from recession, the national chamber of fashion (CNMI) is strongly promoting a sector it forecasts will earn 62.5 billion euros ($85.63 million) in revenue in 2014. Billboards at http://www.chicemma.com Milan's airports read "Welcome to Milan Fashion Week" and screens in the city's streets are streaming footage of the catwalks, which finish on February 24. Ferragamo Chief Executive Michele Norsa said before the brand's show he hoped the new government could make changes that would directly benefit the luxury industry.
Arnault in a statement. "This new partnership is in the DNA of LVMH, which has always supported young designers." LVMH's multibrand strategy has long been based on the principle of ensuring constant growth through a wide portfolio of rising brands, which could offset any slack in its other ones. But booming demand for some of its labels such as Celine and Kenzo is no match for the slump at its juggernaut brand, Louis Vuitton, where sales have stagnated as consumers grew fatigued by its ubiquitous logo bags. Against this backdrop, luxury giants, including LVMH and rival Kering SA, are on the hunt for the next big names in fashion. Mr.
